The "Classroom to Career: Insights from BA Alumni" event, held on July 18, 2024, was organized for current students of the Business Administration Program. SAIT Alumni shared their work experiences to help students connect the dots between their education and career goals.
Rose Campbell, Academic Chair of the Business Administration Diploma program, delivered a welcome from the School of Business and a land acknowledgement. Everyone was welcomed by the host and current Bachelor of Business Administration student, Anser Bassaria, who set the tone for the evening.
The event transitioned to an alumni interview panel featuring Philip Mbadugha, Spencer Janke, Michaela Tomic, Upneet Kaur and Abby Lorenzo. Current Business Administration diploma students, Merryl Louise Dela Masa and Alyssa Eunice Sagum, broke the ice between the panelists. The alumni shared their experiences on the transition from student life to the working world. They shared their strategies and struggles to gain a foothold in their current positions.
The discussion gave way to an engaging Q&A session where students had the opportunity to ask insightful questions. "Stop treating closed doors as walls," Said Tomic, "Closed doors are meant to be opened."
After the panel discussion, Courtney Johnston, BA Student Engagement Officer, led a table activity. Students reflected on their ideal vision for their future and then worked in groups to identify and record the actionable steps they could begin taking right away. Each group presented their ideas to their fellow attendees, establishing a sense of community and mutual support.
"It's something you don't listen to on a daily basis” said SAIT student Veer Rajgor, " I would take all the advice they gave me, and try to apply it in my school year so far"
Students had the opportunity to network informally with alumni and academic leaders at a pizza-fueled event. High attendance and great reviews made the evening a huge success, inspiring and better preparing students for their career journeys.
